DESIGN: UniCopter ~ Control - Flight - Collective

 Notes:

The minimum collective setting must be that which will correspond to 100% rotor speed in autorotation at the extreme combination of gross weight and altitude in the expected flight envelope. [Source ~ RWP1 p.650]

On the UniCopter, this setting can probable changed so that the rotor speed during autorotation is quite a bit higher than 100%. This is because the rotor is capable of handling very large loading, and during autorotation there will not be any excessive maneuvering. This additional rotor inertia may also allow for making desired modifications to the rotor that will result in a descent rate, which is higher than would normally be acceptable.

The maximum collective pitch, as a general rule, is required when make in a flare from autorotation, to allow all the available rotor energy to be used as the rotor slows down. [Source ~ RWP1 p.651]
