Functions:

Each blade has a Pitch-torque coupling mechanism. See; Auto-Collective Rotor Hub

Autorotation: This is the default pitch setting of all four blades.

Collective: The throttle increases or decreased the torque and the pitch in all four engines in unison.

Pitch: For forward pitch; the blades will experience a decrease in power (torque and pitch) when on the advancing side and an increase in power (torque and pitch) when on the retreating side. Conversely, the opposite will be true for a backward pitch.

Roll: The same as the above pitch except the modified power is moved 90º azimuth.

Yaw: The same as pitch except one rotor has its longitudinal pitch increased while the other rotor has its longitudinal pitch decreased.

Sensor:

Rotor Azimuth: There will be an azimuth sensor on both rotor hubs. Its output will be fed to the onboard ESC. See Absolute Encoder below.

There is an electric motor in the root of each blade. The motor's rotor is connected to a pinion, which works with a crown gear or face gear. The stator is connected to the blade. The torque of the blade determines the blade pitch. To maintain a specific rotor rpm and thrust while pitching the blade forward. The torque would be increased on the blade near 270º azimuth while the torque was decreased on the blade near 90º azimuth.

Absolute Encoder:

US Digital ~ The A2 absolute encoder is a non-contacting optical rotary position sensor which reports the shaft angle within a 360° range. As opposed to incremental encoders, the A2 reports the absolute position rather than the change in position. When powered up, it does not require a home cycle, even if the shaft was rotated while the power was off.

Pitch Damper:

To control the rate of pitch change.

Notes:

Locate the Speed Controller with no more than 4" of cable length between it and the motor.

Idea: Locate a capacitor between the commutator and the Speed Controller to smooth out any possible spikes caused by the commutator. Commutator is not the correct word for a simple ring.
