Consider equipping the craft with a capacitor that holds 10 seconds of full power. Assured power at landing and takeoff; by having short-term power storage, such as ultra-capacitors.
For landing the pilot switches on the connection to the ultra-capacitor when he is a short distance above the ground. This will provide power for a battery failure; should it take place during the actual landing or have taken place earlier which started an automatic autorotation.
Regeneration: Consider using regeneration to act as a brake on the rotors after landing. The regeneration might also be used to charge up the capacitors.
