DESIGN: ElectrotorPlus ~ MRGA - Arraignment - No Moment Rods - Low Yoke - - Teetering Hinge w/ Hub Spring

• The current design will force the gyro (motor's rotor) to tip at the same azimuth that the blades are experiencing their maximum teetering velocity. This rigid connection will almost certainly over power the rotational inertial of the gyro and thereby the gyro will not precess 90º. If the teetering of the blades could be done on a single additional axis, centered on the other axe, it would be partially isolated from the ring gear and all should work, via hub springs. The problem is that of getting this extra hinge from the blade grips into the center of the assembly.
• This arraignment may be the simplest and best.
• The rotor and the MRGA teeter about a common gimbal. A gimbaled rotor was used on the early Bell 47.
• The hub spring is located between the planet holder and the non-rotating hub.
• The hub spring is located around the full 360º azimuth. The blade teetering applies a moment through the hub spring and so does the gyroscopic action.
• The universal is large because it takes all loads.
• The motor's rotor may require additional weight up high to allow the permanent magnets an the coils to be lowered to provide for a reduced angle of obliquity and stagger. This added mass may serve as a guide for the blade spars of the other rotor.

• Overrunning Clutch; May be a concern
• Possible Solution to Synchronization, Overrunning, and Rotor-rotor clashing. This material may be better in the rotor section.
• Locate a shaft and a pair of 'weird pinion gears' between the two stationary masts.
• The two 'weird gears' rotate with each other. Similar to the UniCopter X-shaft but loosy-goosy.
• Each 'weird gear' is engaged with weird teeth in the lower outer rim of the Torque Plate.
• The pinion gears synchronize the two rotors in a 'loose fashion.
• In addition, they allow the Torque Plates to teeter, longitudinally and laterally.
• However, the restrict the lateral inward teeter to approximately 2º only.
• The maximum power that the weird gear setup would be called upon to handle is 1/4 of the crafts total power, plus a safety factor, essentially.
• The weird gear and shaft might have dampened rotational give.
• Synchronization of the two rotors will be done electrically and the weird gear setup is for use during a problem.
• A thought. The 'weird gears' might be hypoid and thereby offset slightly aft from the centerline of crown gears. This will allow the 'weird gears' to resist any downward tipping of the blade earlier, at say 60º azimuth and not at 90º azimuth (breast stroke rotation).
• The 'weird gears' might be hard rubber or plastic and they would engage in the cast or machined teeth in the Torque plate.
• The overrunning clutches would be dog type with only two engaging locations about the 360º. This is to insure that the rotors' blades are always at right angles to the other rotors' blade during operation, but can be made parallel for transportation and storage.
• The 'weird gear' setup must be disengaged for rotating one rotor in respect to the other.
• The Following is Earlier Material:
• Perhaps the gears are a critical component.
• They are necessary for synchronization of the two rotors If the rotors can be brought closer together (by taking the mass up and thereby reducing the rotorhead's height above the central pivot) it may be possible to simply mechanically interlock them
• The inertia of the motor is relevant to autorotation. Is it? The motor may slow thereby allowing the aerodynamic rotor to overrun the overrunning clutch. Combined with the above interlocking, perhaps overrunning clutches can be added after the last gear.
• The synchronization of the rotors is by electrical control using encoders. Use above as an adjunct to the encoders.
