• Electrochemical Battery
  
  This is fundamentally the same as the starter battery in your car, storing electricity chemically. Besides the obvious advantage of being proven technology, batteries boast relatively high specific energy per pound compared to other energy storage devices such as ultracapacitors, and have no moving parts. Conventional lead-acid batteries are a mature technology and can be designed to provide initial high power density, but they suffer from low energy density, poor cycle life (especially at higher temperatures), limited power at colder temperatures, and inefficient charge acceptance. As a result, other battery technologies are being considered.
  
  Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries are currently the technology of choice. They are being utilized by virtually every auto manufacturer thanks to their robustness, high energy density (twice that of lead-acid batteries), cycle life (up to three times that of lead-acid batteries, or about 100,000 miles), performance in extreme temperature conditions, safety, and better environmental characteristics.
  
  Lithium-ion (Li-ion) and lithium polymer (Li-poly) batteries hold promise of even better performance, but are at an early stage of development that has not yet overcome their most serious problems as automotive devices. However, smaller ones serve successfully in cellular telephones, computers, etc.

• Ultracapacitors store electricity by physically separating positive and negative charges—unlike batteries which do so chemically. The charge they hold is like the static electricity that can build up on a balloon, but is much greater thanks to the extremely high surface area of their interior materials.
  
  Ultracapacitors are very good at efficiently capturing electricity from regenerative braking, and can deliver power for acceleration just as quickly. With no moving parts, they also have a very long lifespan—probably longer than any car. However, like superflywheels, ultracapacitors still aren't a mature technology, and the specific energy of current production models is still relatively low. Early indicators suggest that ultracapacitors may be economically competitive for hybrid-electric vehicle applications shortly after the turn of the century.

• Ultralight: Apply the full 254# of available weight to the empty weight of the craft. The side-by-side and single-blade configuration will result in a high payload to EW ratio. Therefore the payload can be at least 246# for a GW of 550#. The batteries and any capacitors should be considered as part of the payload and this should be a benifit for electric craft.
