OTHER: Miscellaneous - Thoughtless Idea - Corollas Prerotor for Gyrocopter

Overview:

To use the craft's engine to create a large additional source of energy before takeoff. At takeoff, these two sources are combined to provide the gyrocopter with temporary addition power, to effect a full and safe vertical takeoff, plus transition into forward flight.

Requirements:

A mechanism that delivers pre-rotation to the rotor.

A rotor hub and blades that are strong enough to take very high centrifugal forces

A two, or more, position collective control.

A weight in each blade, which can be moved spanwise in a tube within the blade.

Description of Operation:

Pre-takeoff:

The weights in each blade are located at the tips.
The pitch of the blades is set for minimum drag.
The RPM of the rotor is slowly increased to the point where the rotational inertia reaches a defined maximum.
Because of the high mass in each blade, this maximum RPM is less than the maximum drag value, where countering the rotor torque would cause problems.

Vertical Takeoff:

The collective is increased and the gyrocopter lifts off.
The gyrocopter rotor has high stability and little controllability.
As elevation is acquired and the rotational inertia decreases the controllability increases.

Forward Flight:

The engine power and propeller thrust will cause forward flight.
As the rotor RPM drops to the operational speed, pre-stored air pressure forces the weights to move from the blade tips to the roots. Additional energy is thereby extracted from the rotors through the Corollas effect
When the weights are at the blade roots, the craft will have its full designed level of controllability.

Vertical Landings:

The possibility exists for adding additional rotational inertia to the rotor just prior to touching down.

Details:

Small compressor and lightweight carbon-filament wound storage tank.

Perhaps add more notes at some point in the future

Random Thoughts:

The tube, in which the 'weight' traverses, is a vacuum on the inboard side of the 'weight' and the vacuum draws the 'weight' in as the RRPM decreases.

Concerns:

Controlling the unified movement of the 'weights'.
