Item 1283

DESIGN: UniCopter ~ Control - Flight - Duplex Swashplate - Overview

Overview:

During forward flight the maximum pitch will be at 0º azimuth. To reduce the Roll vibration (oscillating lateral dissymmetry of lift) the pitch at 90º must be reduced and/or the lift at 30º and 150º must be increased. And/or the lift at 270º must be decreased and/or the lift at 210º and 330º must be increased.

It appears that the dual swashplate will do this but I have not figured out how successfully it will do it. One disadvantage to be noted is that at hover Cyclic 2 will give 0º pitch at all azimuths, therefor, because of the 2:1 ratio on the rocker on the pitch horn, only half of the pitch commanded by the cyclic stick will be applied to the blades.

One way to overcome this 2:1 ratio disadvantage is to only have 3 control rods. they will come up to the lower swashplate only. The forward speed adjustment is input between the two swashplates, as a difference in tilt. This way the three control rods control both swashplates.

Sketch of Duplex Swashplate:

Outer and inner rods on upper swashplate must be switched in sketch below.

Drawing of Cyclic:

Note:

This may well work but the swishring may work better.
