Item 1172
DESIGN: Dragonfly ~ Control - Flight -
Mixer - Overview
For use with Spider, only
For Now:
Consider using the SynchroLite lower controls. Initially for testing, the collective could be separated from the cyclic and run from the collective lever to both Spider sticks via a rigid rod or Bowden cable. Two rigid rods can run up and inside the mast to the Spider. Some additional linkage will be required inside the rotor hub.
No. Currently consider Modern type of Bowden cable or hydraulic.
Why hydraulic if all is to be localized in the Principal Assembly

Input to Mixer:
From Pilot:
Longitudinal cyclic
Lateral cyclic
Collective
Yaw
From Pitot Tube:
- Forward Velocity Indicator

Mixer Activities:
Longitudinal:
Combined Longitudinal Cyclic. (with current scheme, the longitudinal cyclic is independent of all other flight controls)
Lateral:
Collective:
- Combined Collective
- Initially for testing, consider two separate Bowden cables going from each control stick to the pilot's collective lever. The collectives will be independently adjustable at one or both ends of the Bowden cables.
- Consider locating a device at the connection of the control stick and the Bowden cable, which will impart an amount of additional collective to one rotor, or the other. This is to work in conjunction with a little lateral cyclic for yaw. Perhaps as one collective is increased the other will have to be decreased, so that the overall thrust does not change. Note that the control stick may be rotating.
Yaw:
- Opposed Longitudinal Cyclic (both ways) If there is enough rotor-rotor clearance to have opposing longitudinal disk tipping.
~ and/or ~
- Opposed Collective w/ Lateral Cyclic (both ways)
~ and/or ~
- Root drag device. (with current scheme, it might be beneficial if a very small amount of forward cyclic accompanies the application of yaw)
And possibly
- Opposed stabilator rotation.
- Variable area on vertical stabilizer.
Fast Forward:
- Opposed Lateral Cyclic (as forward velocity increases) <------------>

Mixer Output to Spider Sticks:
Longitudinal (X)
Lateral (Z)
Vertical (Z)
