DESIGN: UniCopter ~ PT - Reduction - Primary - Gear - Engine Vertical

The actual drawing shows many different arraignments at different angles.

Notes:

The gear miter angle must be between 60º and 90º for the axis of the pinion to be on the XZ-plane.

The larger the miter angle angle;

the more vertical the engine's crankshaft will be.
The closer the engine's centerline is to the helicopter's centerline on the Y-axis. GOOD
The further aft the primary reducer is. BAD
The smaller the diameter of the gears the closer the engine's centerline is to the helicopter's centerline.

30 degrees down from the horizontal looks best, for aerodynamics at least. May 12, 2001, Maybe not. If mounting engine with crankshaft vertical then consider locating pinion on upper edge of crown gear if it will allow the engine to be located at a higher elevation - for moment arm and shape of fuselage.
