Item 0802

DESIGN: SynchroLite ~ Special Tool - Rotor - Hub - Bearing - Elastomeric - Shim Die

Objective:

Possible means of producing metal shims of different diameters by the roll forming method.

Drawing:

Notes:

The finished product is item 0801

The larger the shim diameter the thinner the wall but the larger the diameter the less torque per given area. In other words the torque on the shim and the thickness of the shim are both proportional to the radius at that location.

The forming operation might work harden the material slightly.

Description of Producing Shim:

  1. Insert the forming die into a lathe.
  2. Insert 1" OD tubing into the forming die and have it extend 0.X" to the right beyond the cone root then clamp it.
  3. With die and tube rotating flare the 0.X" long extension until its shape conforms to taper on the die.
  4. Repeat extending and flaring of all the extended tubing [current 0.X" plus previous 0.x"] until the end of the flared tube is at desired diameter.
  5. Cut off the flared tubing at desired width. [in drawing above it will be 0.5091"].
  6. Repeat 4/ and 5/, as required.
