Item 0586

DESIGN: SynchroLite ~ Power Train - Reduction - Primary - Belt Drive - Poly-V

Browning Poly-V Drive Calculation: Calculations done from Browning catalog pages D-20

Maximum hp is 67.

Maximum rpm is 4000.

Reduction 2.2:1

A/ Overload Service Factor = 1.

B/ Selected Belt Section = L

C/ Speed Ratio = 2.17:1 & Sheave Sizes OD = 4.6" and 10.0".

D/ Belt Length = 50.0' or 54.0' & Desired Center Distance = 14.1936"

E/ Horsepower Per Rib;

1750 rpm = 2.41 hp. 0.001377 hp/rpm

3500 rpm = 4.03 hp. 0.001151 hp/rpm

Therefore 4000 rpm = 4.38 hp. from 0.001095 hp/rpm

F/ Number of Ribs = 67 / 4.38 = 15.29. Go with 12, 14 or 16 ribs

G/ List Components.

____________________________

The width of the sheave for 14 ribs is 2.81"

Detailed Calculation of Poly-V by Browning, Optibelt etc. Calculations below done from Browning catalog pages D-15. or maybe from Optibelt catalog

Maximum hp is 67.

Maximum rpm is 4000.

Reduction 2.2:1

Go for Section L

d = 4.6" diameter

D = 10.0" diameter

Service factor of 1

Have not revised the calculations and values below here yet. Currently they are from the 2-engine calculations

C = Center to Center = x"

Correction Factor for loss in Arc of Contact

Loss in arc of contact (in degrees) = (D – d) * 57 / C

= (7.4 – 3) * 57 / 16.5

= 15.2

Correction factor for loss in arc = .955

  Correction Factors for Belt Length

Say 50" belt = .85

3/ Speed ratio = 7.4 / 3 = 2.5

4/

5/ L = 2C + 1.57 (D + d) + ((D – d)sq / 4C)

= 33 + 16.328 + (19.36 / 66)

= 49.62"

Make center distance 16.6875 inches.

6/ 2 + .56 = 2.56

7/ 28 / 2.56 = 10.93 ribs

Say 10 ribs. Belt width is 1.875". Thickness is 0.38".

8/ Belt is Optibelt 500 L 10.

The above does not appear to take correction factor for belt length into account?

On an Internet site they mentioned the ‘L’ section and also a ‘LT Kevlar Cord’ section. Is this stronger?
